Mother's Grace
Because thou art the world shall yet survive
Its madness and estrangement from the light,
The darkness that men love, on which they thrive
And joy in the seductions of the night.
Escape from life no longer is the Way
Or suffering to gain the Heaven-Crown,
Relinquish earth to evil's sordid play
And in the seas of ignorance to drown.
This might have been if we were left alone
With ego lord of blind humanity
Propped vainly now on falsehood's blackened throne,
Our call unanswered by divinity.
But thou hast come to vanquish death and sin.
Abandoned we no longer whirl in fear,
Immortal souls their sacred reign begin
Transforming by thy Grace this hallowed sphere.
